Ever felt that tight jaw, clenched fists, or burning frustration rising in your chest—seemingly out of nowhere? Sometimes, we’re carrying more anger than we realize. And often, it’s our body that speaks up first.
In reflexology, we understand that emotions don’t just pass through us—they settle in. They land in the body, and if unexpressed, they can get stuck. One emotion that tends to linger deep within is anger—and the organ most affected? The liver.
What Does Anger Do to the Body?
Anger is not the enemy. It’s a healthy, natural response to feeling hurt, disrespected, overwhelmed, or unheard. It’s your body’s way of saying, “Something isn’t right here.” In fact, anger can be incredibly useful when understood and expressed mindfully:
1. It Highlights Misalignment
Anger often flares up when things feel unfair or out of sync—whether in your relationships, work, or the world around you. It points to what needs your attention.
2. It Fuels Change
Anger activates the body. It can push you from being stuck into momentum. Big life shifts—leaving toxic situations, speaking up, setting boundaries—often begin with this emotional spark.
3. It Protects Your Boundaries
Think of anger as your inner protector. It rises when your limits have been crossed, especially if you’ve been tolerating more than you should.
4. But Repressed Anger Weighs Heavy
When unacknowledged or buried, anger can start to turn inward. It may manifest as irritability, muscle tension, headaches, digestive problems, or even depression. It blocks energy, dulls your clarity, and throws your body out of balance.
The Liver-Anger Connection in Reflexology
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the liver is considered the seat of anger. This powerful organ doesn’t just filter toxins—it also governs the smooth flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body. When anger builds up or stays stuck, it blocks that flow—leading to physical and emotional disharmony.
How Reflexology Can Help?
At AromaHub, reflexology sessions are more than just relaxing—they’re a reset. We begin by grounding and balancing the entire body, then focus on the reflex points that correspond to the liver and gallbladder, the duo most linked to anger and frustration.
Reflexology can help to:
• Unblock stagnant energy
• Support emotional release
• Encourage detoxification
• Restore clarity and calm
Clients often leave feeling noticeably lighter—like something heavy has finally been let go.
Self-Care at Home: Simple Practices to Move Through Anger
If you’re feeling snappy, restless, or stuck in frustration, try these grounding tools:
1. Reflex Point Massage (Feet or Hands)
• Sit comfortably and find the liver reflex point on your right foot, just below the ball of the foot toward the outer edge.
• Gently press and massage in slow, small circles for 2–3 minutes.
Prefer something more accessible?
You can also massage the liver reflex point on your right hand—located in the fleshy mid-area below the pinky on the palm side. This is a great option if you’re on the go or can’t reach your feet easily.
2. Deep Breathing with Scent
• Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 6. Do this for 5 cycles.
• Pair it with a calming essential oil (stay tuned for our next blog with specific blends).
3. Move It Out
Go for a brisk walk, dance it out, or shake your arms and legs. Movement helps anger move through the body, rather than getting stuck in it.
